This painting is inspired by one of my favourite flowers. I’m a romantic at heart and painting flowers is one of my love languages. I find flowers so fascinating in all of their stages, which are like so many things in nature, fleeting. I especially love the beginning phase of the peony where the flowers are still tight buds before they open up and expand, waiting to show the world their true beauty in all cycles.
I began this painting by choosing the colour palette and then I let the painting guide me to add more colours and elements as it unfolded.
I started this painting during a stressful period earlier this year and opened myself up vulnerably and let my heart lead the way. To me this painting resonates a gentle beauty and comfort, but one that is filled with promise and deep emotion on another level.
