Inspired by the raw, untamed coastal landscapes of Australia, Break Away captures the powerful threshold where deep ocean meets a rugged shoreline. Using a compelling blend of oil paint and cold wax medium, I built a rich, tactile surface that mirrors the visceral textures of nature itself. The composition is split into distinct environmental zones, guiding the viewer’s eye from the churning, deep-blue depths at the top down to luminous, emerald-tinted shallows at the base. At the heart of the canvas lies a dense, mosaic-like barrier of rocky terrain. Rendered with sharp, impasto-style palette knife strokes, these stones shift from dark, submerged shadows to sun-bleached creams and earthy pinks. By layering translucent glazes with thick, sculpted textures, it evokes the physical sensation of moving sea spray, crashing waves, and the eternal, dialogue between land and water. Break Away is an exploration of elemental energy, inviting the viewer to stand at the edge of the coast and feel the intensity of the natural world.
